Academician Mircea Flonta, Special Guest at the “Science Hour,” at the Academy of Scientists in Bucharest

Professor Mircea Flonta is one of the most distinguished Romanian philosophers and a full member of the Romanian Academy. Professor emeritus at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Philosophy, he has played a central role in the development of contemporary Romanian philosophy, particularly in the fields of epistemology and philosophy of science.

Over several decades of academic activity, Professor Flonta has contributed significantly to the study of the theory of knowledge, philosophy of language, and the philosophical foundations of science. His scholarly work is also widely recognized for its profound engagement with the thought of major philosophers such as Immanuel Kant and Ludwig Wittgenstein, whose ideas he has examined with exceptional rigor and interpretative depth. Beyond his original research, Professor Flonta has made an outstanding contribution to the dissemination of modern philosophical thought in Romania through translations and critical editions of works by leading thinkers including David Hume, Karl Popper, and Albert Einstein. His publications have shaped generations of scholars and students, strengthening the dialogue between philosophy and the sciences.

The Romanian Academy invited him last Tuesday, March 3, 2026,  speak about “On the Concept of Scientific Knowledge”. The event marked four years since the Romanian Academy launched the public lecture series “Science Hour”, which has now reached its 25th edition.

Through his intellectual leadership and remarkable scholarly achievements, Professor Mircea Flonta continues to be a prominent voice in European philosophical reflection and an inspiring figure in interdisciplinary academic dialogue.
